About Monterey Bay AI
Monterey Bay AI is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Since July 2025 we have taught people to use AI with care so they can spend more of their life offline. We serve Monterey, Salinas, Santa Cruz, Carmel, Pacific Grove, Seaside and Marina in person, and the rest of the country online.

Our founder
Monterey Bay AI was founded by Tori Kumre. Tori is a self-taught designer who fell in love with UX by 2019 and now teaches user experience in AI automation. Tori has also taught dance since 2011. That mix of design and teaching bodies to move is why our workshops are hands-on and why our classes go past the screen.
Why we exist
AI showed up in everyone's work at once. Most people got a login and no lessons. We teach the lessons. Plain language, real tasks, and honest talk about what the tools should and should not do.
We also teach the other half. Once the busywork is done, the time has to go somewhere. We want it to go to hands, neighbors, gardens and rest. That is our slogan, Human Again, and it is why we run classes that have nothing to do with AI.

How we work
AI can write the first draft, but a person reads it, fixes it and puts their name on it. We explain things without jargon, and we would rather recommend one simple tool than five clever ones. If a tool is not saving you time, we will tell you to stop using it.
